On Painting

January 29th, 2006

A great weekend has now come to its close. I spent the weekend “building” and painting this weekend. Had some IHOP, fresca and Papa John’s along with all the activities…

Friday night i met up with Kori for some paint shopping and then italian for dinner. First choice was Papa Vino’s but we weren’t super happy about the 1.5-2hour wait they had going. Next time we’ll have to call ahead (or not decide on PV’s at quite that short notice. Olive Garden was a 15 minute wait and was still tasty. I had a great Stuffed Chicken Marsala with some iced tea (sadly, they were out of frozen peaches). We got done with dinner and didn’t want to go back yet so we stopped by Blockbuster and rented The Big Lebowski. Great movie.

Saturday i drove back over to Kori’s and we drove up in michigan to a Lowes for a Habitat for Humanity clinic. We learned some framing. It was interesting to find out how much i know about construction-y things without realizing it. It lasted for about an hourish and then we went to IHOP for some tasty tasty food. I had an omelet with ham (surprise) and cheese. And of course pancakes. 3 hearty grain and nut pancakes with loads and loads of boysenberry syrup (i thought the nut pancakes would be too much with butter pecan).

Living & Dining Rooms Then the painting. Oh the painting fun. We started with whisper yellow and it was nice. Thought it might be too dark at first, but it dried to a nice light yellow that really made the place look bright and fun (matched kori well). It was a matter of move furniture, mask, apply drop sheet, paint & trim, repeat as needed. Since it was an apartment, we just moved furniture and painted a section and repeated. It took about 12 hours, but we stopped for some dinner and a movie (ice age) and needed to do moving stuff between various sections.

Dining Room & Kitchen Finally about 2am, we were done with the 3rd coat of Ruby Red and decided that it was time to be done and she would wait to see what the red was like when it had fully dried. Still isn’t all the way dry (probably due to rain) but it will probably need another coat… the dark color shows a lot of detail and overlapping of trim and rolled paint.

Now i want to have my own place so i can paint it. I want to match my japanese woodblock painting and have a nice blue-tone main room. Very calming. Countdown to graduation has begun. 4 months or so… and counting.
