Perl & I

March 5th, 2006

Snowy Flowering Dogwood Tomorrow brings the end of spring break (we are currently experiencing quite the snowfall) and i think i spent my time well. I read 2 fiction books - The Color of Magic and The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett. Very well written and very funny. Good stuff there. Then i worked off an on all week on learning Perl. And now i love it. I’m about halfway through the O’Reilly book on Learning Perl and i hope to finish it in the next couple weeks as time allows. Next i’d like to pick up Programming Perl and delve a bit deeper in the language and its nuances. Plus, i can write some useful little scripts to take care of some things for me…

  1. After “Learning Perl”, pick up “Intermediate Perl” (formerly known as “Learning Perl Objects References and Modules”), the sequel in spirit and form. No need to go to the dictionary when there are still books on the grammar.

  2. Randal, do you have your Ham license? There is a rumor that

    If (Obtained_Ham_License(Name))
    {
    geekiness += 2000;
    charisma -= 1500;
    }

    The geekiness out weighs the charisma so it’s a good idea to get one if you don’t already have one.

  3. No, not a ham. Barely know how to operate a CB and a cell phone. :)
